Winter in America

Today has truly been an emotional one for me.  Logging on to twitter only to read that the great Gil Scott Heron has left the body totally caught me off guard.  Gil Scott has always been apart of my life.  Next to my parents, Malcolm X and Gil Scott Heron has always kept me aware/awake.  I have listened to brother Heron plenty of times and cried because of how his music has touched me, so today was no exception.  I couldn't hold it in and I just cried while listening to Winter in America it moves me in so many ways

When I about 22 I remember my good friend Nubian came over with his Gil Scott Heron Live DVD and we watch it till the sun came up, talking about the revolution and all things related.  It was such a special night to be able to connect with someone in such a healthy spiritual way while listening to the smoothness that was, is, and will always be Gil Scott Heron.

A few years ago my mother, sister, boyfriend and I had the privilege to see him perform live out here in Denver.  When we heard he was coming, there was no way we would miss history right before our eyes.  I'm not saying this because it was Mr Heron, but he put on an excellent show.  The live band and his voice live was hypnotizing.  I even got to speak with him and tell him thank you for making great music.
He will be missed dearly and I wish this was not the news for the day but it is life.
I love you Mr. Heron and I promise I will see you next life time. Rest in Power.

I graduated!!!!

So I graduated! it has been a long time coming but I did it and I am super proud of myself.  I had wonderful family that have been a big inspiration.  I received my Bachelor of Fine Art with a concentration in Photography and a built in Minor in Art History.  I haven't decided on Grad school yet, but right now I am enjoying being done with school.

The Urban Spectrum news paper prints all African American graduates in their paper so that was really nice.  I have lots of papers for archiving!

I had huge bbq at my house with my family, partied very hard! Went to the club came home slept in my club clothes so I wouldn't have to change, alarm went off at 6:00 am got up changed my shoes, brushed my teeth and left for the ceremony.  My sis told my i smelled like a distillery, my eyes were still blood shot red and my teacher (JG) confirmed that :) that is the reason for the glasses.  I would have played the prude the night before graduation, but my friend Naoim said "your supposed to be fucked up when you walk across that stage".  So I rocked it like a star did my dance across the stage and made my family proud!
My big sis & Naiom
My cousin Jess and my brother
My brothers fiance, my big sis, my sister from another mother, ME, and my lil sis

Little Feather, ME, and my big sis
over 1600 students graduated and it was cold! I was in the first row to receive our degree's and then they told us we could leave after, LUCKY!

Sky's the limit LOL! Word!
Great memories!

Time

As we all know I am inspired by art and music equally so here is another one of my photo x music collabs.
I titled this Beauty & Time.  It is amazing how the jewels are dangling from this center piece and the reflections of the clock are in the mirror.  i started to get these feelings about how things change over time (including beauty) and how no matter how much time has passed thing can stay the same (including beauty).  I always like when people can apply their own experiences and ideas to my images so feel free!

Everything

Here are a few things I worked on last night because of the mood I was and still in.  I'm a little over whelmed and upset with some situations right now, but I guess eventually I will get over it.  I need a pick-me-up quick!!!!!

Music & Art move 99.9% of my days so these images also have music inspirations with them.
